An overhead crane — also called a bridge crane or EOT crane (electric overhead traveling crane) — runs on elevated rails mounted to the building's columns and roof structure. The bridge spans the width of the bay, end trucks ride the runway beams, and the trolley with its hoist travels along the bridge to lift and move loads anywhere within the bay.

Best for: factories, workshops and warehouses that already have a steel structure — anywhere you need to move loads across the bay without giving up floor space.
A gantry crane is essentially an overhead crane with legs. The bridge is supported by two floor-mounted legs (or one leg in semi-gantry designs) that run on wheels, casters, or ground rails. It carries its own support structure, so it does not depend on the building to hold the load.
Key characteristics:
Best for: outdoor yards, prefabrication plants, stone and panel processing, container and steel storage, and workshops without crane-rated building structure.
